Introduction

Ideal for beginners, this course lets you craft a beautiful, functional cheeseboard from high-quality, furniture-grade timber that will last for generations. Our friendly instructors will guide you through each step. Whether you're curious about woodworking or looking for a unique gift idea, this class is a fantastic introduction to the world of woodworking. Unleash your creativity and take home a handcrafted masterpiece.

Workshop Content

- Design Concept and Drawing

We'll start our journey with the most challenging aspect of the day, deciding what shape to turn your board into. Participants start by sketching their unique cheese board designs, drawing inspiration from provided templates or creating their own patterns to express their creativity.

- Cutting

Using a jigsaw under the guidance of instructors, You'll carefully cut out the precise shape of your cheeseboard from a prepared timber blank, focusing on taking your time and mastering control of this typically inaccurate power tool.

- Edge Refinement

After bulk of the work has been completed with the jigsaw, you'll refine the edges of your board using tools like rasps, spokeshaves and planes, ensuring smoothness and consistency, in preparation for a process called edge profile routing.

- Surface Pre-treatment

Attention to detail is crucial as participants prepare the surface of their cheese boards, ensuring they are smooth and ready for subsequent steps. Pre-treatment is important to remove heaver marks and blemishes from the timber machining process.

- Profile Routing

By now you'll be falling in love with your efforts so far, and then we'll take things up a notch by adding a perfect routed profile to the perimeter of your board. This step elevates the overall feel, fit and finish of your (almost) finished work of art.

- Final Sanding and Finish Preparation

You'll meticulously re-sand every surface of your cheese board including a grain raising procedure we use on every single one of our furniture projects.  All this love shines bright when the first coat of our favourite, Gilly's Food Safe finish hit's the surface and highlights the beautiful grain.

- Applying Finish

Finally, You'll hand buff a coat or two of a food safe, natural oil into the grain of your board, ensuring every square inch receives the coverage it deserves to protect it and prepare it for use. We'll discuss subsequent maintenance coats and you'll receive a complimentary maintenance kit as part of attending the workshop.
